Profile Mark and Mel Wilder

Minuteman Badminton 2008

Mel Wilder is probably the most successful amateur on the British eventing circuit. Mel works full time as a Sales Director for QinetiQ, a successful defence company and is unique in that she competes at the top level in eventing without horses being her full time career. 2009 has been her most successful season to date being placed 8th at Bramham and 6th at Blenheim International three day events. This year Mel has finished 63rd in the rider rankings top 100 (most successful British and foreign riders competing in Britain with over 12,000 members); the only amateur rider within the top 100. Her advanced horse Minuteman also finished in the top 100 horses of 2009 (out of over 10,000 horses).

Mel currently has 3 horses to compete: Minuteman at Advanced level who will be aimed at top international competitions and four star three day events in 2010; Trefeinon Red Kite, a very exciting 6yr old who started eventing in 2009 winning a Novice and qualifying for the British Young Horse championships. He also qualified for the Burghley Young Event Horse finals in 2008. He will be aimed at the British Novice championships and the World Young Horse championships in 2010; and Simexico, a four year old who will begin his eventing career in 2010 and will be aimed at the Burghley Young Event Horse finals and the British Young Horse championships.

Mark was a successful Young Rider and competed at Advanced level and Young Rider teams. He has more recently been responsible for breaking the young horses and starting their competition careers including buying and selling youngsters to fund the business. He will be competing the young horses during 2010.

Both Mel and Mark are seeking further rides for 2010 to really make their mark on the circuit
